The Science Imagination Drawing Contest for upper secondary students is part of Thailand’s Regional National Science Week 2026 at the Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University, for the Northeastern regional center.

This contest is valuable because it does not judge only visual beauty. It combines imagination, artistic form, science content, technique, and a concept interview for the 10 shortlisted participants.

Eligibility and Registration

Participants must be upper secondary students in academic year 2026. Homeschool students may join if they have the required educational registration and grade-level certificates.

Each school may send up to 2 participants. Because of venue limits, the organizer accepts no more than 120 participants, with priority given to earlier registrations.

Registration is open from June 15 to July 17, 2026 through the Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University Science Week website, and may close earlier when all seats are filled.

Date, Time, and Venue

The contest takes place on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. Drawing time is 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, for a total of 3 hours.

The venue is rooms SC8320 and SC8321, 3rd floor, SC08 Building, Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University. Registration starts at 8:00 AM.

Important Contest Rules

The contest topic will be announced in the drawing room at 9:00 AM. Participants may not leave the room before 10:00 AM except in unavoidable cases approved by the committee.

Participants may not bring sketches, sample works, reference documents, printed images, notebooks, or other drawing references into the contest room. Violations lead to immediate disqualification.

Only water-based or water-soluble media are allowed, such as watercolor, poster color, or acrylic. Watercolor pencils, markers, correction fluid, and ballpoint pens are not allowed.

Participants must bring their own colors, 1-inch masking tape, ruler, and other tools. The drawing paper must be the official paper provided by the committee: white 100-pound A3 watercolor paper with the Faculty of Science stamp on the back.

The committee will not consider three-dimensional works such as collage, added materials, raised surfaces, or similar techniques. Phones and electronic devices are not allowed during the contest.

After Drawing Time Ends

After time is called, participants leave the artwork on the drawing desk, pack personal tools, and leave the room. The 10 shortlisted works will be announced through the LINE group at 1:30 PM.

Shortlisted participants must confirm and report for a concept interview. Interviews begin at 1:45 PM, and final results are announced at 3:00 PM.

Awards are presented at 3:15 PM in front of room SC8320. Awarded works become the property of the Faculty of Science, Khon Kaen University and the Science Society of Thailand under the Patronage of His Majesty the King.

Judging Criteria

The total score is 100 points: concept and imagination through interview 25 points, artistic form 25 points, science content relevant to the topic 30 points, and appropriate technique 20 points.

A strong submission therefore needs clear scientific thinking, creativity, visual organization, and technical control. A beautiful picture alone may not be enough if the science idea is weak.

MiniPriza’s Note

Because the contest includes an interview, students should practice explaining their artwork: what the topic means, where the science idea appears, and how visual details support the story.

Since the topic is announced in the room, preparation should focus on flexible thinking. Practice possible themes such as energy, environment, space, medical science, future cities, technology, or science solving human problems, then train yourself to turn an idea into a clear A3 composition within 3 hours.
